National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA)
For more than 60 years, NBFAA has been working to help its members, as well as the fire alarm and burglar detection industry in general. A non-profit group, NBFAA is the largest professional trade association in the United States that has the goal of representing and enhancing the growth of the electronic life safety, security and integrated systems industry. Members of NBFAA range from commercial companies to residential consumers. Companies that work in the sale, manufacturing, installation, service and monitoring of fire alarm and security systems are represented in the organization.
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
The NFPA is charged with maintaining and creating the standards for fire prevention, training and equipment in the fire protection agency. The codes and standards that the NFPA implement include building codes, personal protective equipment and more. Founded in 1896 by an insurance firm, the NFPA had the mission of standardizing the new market of fire sprinkler systems. As time went on, their scope grew to include building electrical systems and all other aspects of building design and construction. The first fire department to be represented by NFPA was the New York City Fire Department in 1905. Today, fire departments, insurance companies, manufacturing companies, trade associations and average individuals are all represented by the NFPA.
