Several Different Homeland Security Careers

It is well known that government work has great benefits and bonuses that come with it. The problem is that most people do not know what jobs are available and what requirements they have to meet to get these jobs. This article will discuss a few of the homeland security careers available and tell the duties and requirements of each of them. All the career mentioned will require you to be a US citizen, pass a background check, pass and drug test, and most will require you to be able to obtain security clearance.

The first career is a supervisory intelligence operations specialist. To qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience in the Federal Service or private sector. They will compare the jobs requirements to the experience that you have and determine if you have the right kind of experience needed to effectively carry out the job.

This career will require you to supervise all aspects of the watch operation center and the research of intelligence data. You will be responsible for integrating all intelligence resources and conducting briefings based on these resources. Careers in Information Systems Security

Information technology has revolutionized the way we conduct trade, exchange information, socialize, strategize, advertise, and more. However, a growing reliance on information technology presents its own problems; a single breach in a computing system could lead to the destruction and dissemination of sensitive information, to entire enterprises and systems coming to a standstill, to losses of billions of dollars, and could even jeopardize human lives. President Obama’s 2009 state of the union address discussed the various instances where information technology systems were compromised between 2008 and 2010, and how this affected society; in just two years, America suffered a loss of $8 million due to cyber crime, a single employee was charged with the theft of $400 million worth of intellectual property, and several thousand U.S. military computers were infected by spyware. There is a pressing need for qualified, skilled information systems security professionals; as noted by President Obama in the same speech: “America’s economic prosperity in the twenty-first century will depend on cyber security.” *
